ANALYSIS OF THE DAMAGE CAUSING BY THE EXPANSIVE CLAY SOILS AND EVALUATION OF SOIL STABILIZATION METHODS

摘要
黏性土壤的膨脹力常會帶給土木工程師許多困擾。在土壤力學中所定義的此類土壤稱為「膨脹性黏土」(Expansive Clay)。它所造成的破壞,對結構物而言小自樓版變形,牆壁龜裂,大至結構物之傾斜、倒塌等;對公路路面,則引起路面突起、破裂,修護花費實為一筆可觀之數目。美國道路工程學會土壤穩定小組(TRB, Transportation Research Board, Soil Stabilization Committee)調查,每年花費在這方面的費用高達數億美金。
本文係筆者留美期間完成初稿,其中之內容以筆者從事之研究結果,施工設計之經驗與參加數次TRB年會收集之資料為主體而完成;包括此一問題之產生,評估及防治方法。
英文摘要
The damage causing by the expansive clay soils has been bothered the Geotechnical Engineers for many years. The first part of this paper includes the evaluation of the occurrence of swelling force in the soil mass and the introduction of several classification methods for the swelling potential of the clay soils. Secondly, the typical damages to the building and pavement are discussed.
In the last part, tile best solution of this problem, soil stabilization, is evaluated and discussed. Not only clearly defines the terminology of soil stabilization, but also represents the applicable methods for the geotechnical engineers' use. The methods(behaviors)dailed in this part include modification and stabilization. The materials used included lime, fly ash, and mixture. At the same time, the soil property changes as a result of the stabilization are evaluated.
